What You Need To Know About GoPro’s April Camera Line Up
February 24, 2016Some of your favorite GoPro cameras are destined for the graveyard come April.
GoPro, an American manufacturer of action cameras that are most known for their use in extreme action videography, posted a dismal fourth quarter in 2015.
On top of the announcement of the departure of Chief Financial Officer, Jack Lazar, and weeks after a round of layoffs, GoPro noted a 31% drop in revenue when comparing the fourth quarter of 2015 to the fourth quarter of 2014. In addition, they predict a $1.6 billion drop in revenue this year.
What does this mean for you, the consumer? Well, if you’ve been waiting to purchase a GoPro, you might be able to pick up one of their discontinued models fairly cheaply. Take a look at their cheapest HERO GoPro – the entry-level GoPro - as it will be discontinued.
If you want to wait until April, you can grab one of their newest models complete with new technology. If you like the newest and brightest, read on as we tell you what you need to know about GoPro’s April camera line up.
The April 2016 GoPro line up will include just three cameras. Everything else is discontinued. Let’s look at the line up for April.
The HERO4 Black
The ultimate in functionality, the HERO4 Black delivers performance that is unlike any other GoPro. It captures 4K Ultra HD video and liquid-smooth slow motion at up to 240 frames per second.
Priced at $499.99, this camera brings the best image quality in any GoPro camera. It also features built-in Wi-Fi and a processor that is two times more powerful than others on the market while delivering super low motion at 240 frames per second.
The HERO Black is waterproof to 131 feet (40 meters). It’s the perfect camera for diehard GoPro fans who want the ultimate in high resolution, color, function and speed.
An improvement over April’s discontinued models, the HERO Black comes with new features and technology. Its professional quality features include improvements in audio, wireless connectivity, time-lapse, usability and more.
Lastly, this camera has new settings for after dark. The new night photo and night lapse offer customizable exposure settings to capture ultra-low light scenes.
The HERO4 Silver
Priced at $399.99, the HERO4 Silver is a terrific camera. With nearly all the capabilities of the HERO4 Black, let’s look at what sets the two models apart from one another.
The biggest advantage of the HERO4 Silver is its touchscreen. It’s the first GoPro to come with a built-in touch display LCD screen. This is a handy feature for framing shots and playback. The downside is it drains the battery quickly.
Another notable difference between the Black and the Silver is the incredible 4K recording ability of the HERO4 Black. You can record at 30, 25 and 24 fps with double the number of image processors as the HERO4 Silver. In addition, the slow motion features are better on the Black, while the audio quality is similar.
The HERO4 Session
Priced at an affordable $199, this camera harnesses the power of GoPro in the smallest, lightest camera. It features a rugged, waterproof design with one-button control and superb battery efficiency.
The HERO4 Session is 50% smaller and 40% lighter than the other HERO4 cameras. It’s incredibly easy to wear, mount and use no matter where you are.
